Terms of Use
Last updated: 11 June 2026
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the BeatID Online platform (“Platform”), operated by BEAT ID LTD, a company incorporated in England and Wales (Companies House number 17175762), registered address: Office 18878, 182-184 High Street North, London, England, E6 2JA (“Beat ID”, “we”, “us”, “our”).
By accessing or using BeatID Online, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.
1. About BeatID Online
BeatID Online is a free-to-play, browser-based multiplayer music trivia game. A host creates a game room, selects music from the Apple Music catalogue, and plays 30-second song previews. Players join via a 6-digit PIN and compete to identify the song title. The Platform is the web companion to the BeatID iOS application.
2. Who Can Use BeatID Online
BeatID Online is available to users of all ages. However, users under the age of 13 should have parental or guardian permission before using the Platform.
By using BeatID Online, you confirm that you have the legal capacity to agree to these Terms, or that a parent or guardian has consented on your behalf.
3. How the Platform Works
3.1 Hosting a Game
To host a game, you access the host page. A Firebase anonymous account is created automatically for your session. You can search for and select music from the Apple Music catalogue. You control the game flow — starting rounds, playing previews, and ending the game. No personal account registration (email, password) is required.
3.2 Joining a Game
To join a game, you enter the 6-digit room PIN and choose a nickname (up to 24 characters). A Firebase anonymous account is created automatically for your session. Your nickname is displayed to the host and all other players in the same room.
3.3 Score Claiming
After a game ends, you may be invited to “claim your score” in the BeatID iOS app. This creates a temporary migration record (nickname and score) that is automatically deleted after 7 days. Claiming is optional.
4. User Content — Nicknames
4.1 Your Nickname
The only user-generated content on BeatID Online is your chosen nickname. Your nickname is displayed publicly to all players in your game room and on the game leaderboard.
4.2 Prohibited Nicknames
You must not use a nickname that:
- Is offensive, hateful, harassing, or threatening
- Contains profanity, slurs, or discriminatory language
- Impersonates another person or public figure
- Is defamatory or libellous
- Promotes illegal activities
- Contains personal information about another person (e.g., their real name, phone number, or address)
We reserve the right to filter, reject, or remove nicknames that breach these rules. Repeated violations may result in your session being terminated.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Platform for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Platform, our systems, or networks
- Introduce malware, viruses, or any harmful code
- Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to play the game, submit guesses, or otherwise interact with the Platform in a way that gives you an unfair advantage or disrupts normal operation
- Harvest, scrape, or collect data from the Platform without our prior written consent
- Interfere with or disrupt other players’ enjoyment of the game
- Attempt to extract, download, or redistribute song preview audio from the Platform
- Use the Platform to conduct denial-of-service attacks or to deliberately overload our infrastructure
6. Intellectual Property
6.1 Platform IP
The BeatID Online Platform, including its design, code, logos, branding, and game mechanics, is the intellectual property of BEAT ID LTD. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of our intellectual property to you.
“BeatID”, “BeatID Online”, and “BEAT ID” are trading names of BEAT ID LTD.
6.2 Music Content
All song previews played during games are provided by the Apple Music API and are the intellectual property of the respective artists, labels, and publishers. BeatID Online does not claim ownership of any music content. Song previews are streamed in real time and are not stored on our servers.
6.3 Apple Music
Use of Apple Music content is subject to Apple’s Terms of Service. By using BeatID Online, you acknowledge that Apple Music previews are provided under Apple’s developer licence and are subject to Apple’s terms and conditions.
7. Platform Availability
We aim to keep BeatID Online available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may update, modify, or discontinue the Platform or any feature at any time without prior notice. We are not liable for any loss arising from Platform downtime or feature changes.
8. Limitation of Liability
8.1 Platform as a Game
BeatID Online is provided as a free entertainment service. We do not guarantee the accuracy of song metadata, search results, or scoring calculations.
8.2 Exclusions
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Beat ID excludes all liability for:
- Loss of data, scores, leaderboard positions, or game progress
- Content of nicknames chosen by other users
- Interruptions, errors, or unavailability of the Platform
- Any indirect, special, or consequential loss
8.3 Cap on Liability
Our total liability to you in connection with the Platform shall not exceed £100. BeatID Online is a free service — no fees are charged.
8.4 Consumer Rights Not Affected
Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are not affected by these Terms.
9. Termination
We may terminate or suspend your access to BeatID Online at any time if you breach these Terms, if we suspect abusive or disruptive behaviour, or if we are required to do so by law.
Because BeatID Online uses anonymous sessions (no registered accounts), termination means ending your current session and may include blocking further access where technically feasible.
10. Privacy
Your use of BeatID Online is also governed by our Privacy Notice, which explains what personal data we collect and how we use it. Please read it carefully.
11. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
If you have a complaint or concern, please contact us at legal@beatid.me. We aim to resolve disputes informally within 30 days of receiving a complaint.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when the Terms were last revised. Your continued use of BeatID Online after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree with updated Terms, you must stop using the Platform.
