Cookie & Storage Policy
Last updated: 11 June 2026
1. What This Policy Covers
This policy explains how BeatID Online uses cookies, local storage, and similar technologies on your device. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), we must tell you about these technologies and, where they are not strictly necessary, obtain your consent before using them.
BeatID Online does not use traditional HTTP cookies. We use browser local storage (localStorage) and IndexedDB, which are “similar technologies” covered by PECR.
2. What We Store on Your Device
2.1 Strictly Necessary Storage (No Consent Required)
These items are essential for the Platform to function. They are exempt from the consent requirement under PECR Regulation 6(4).
| Item | Technology | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Firebase Auth session tokens | IndexedDB | Maintaining your anonymous authentication session so you can play the game. Without this, real-time multiplayer would not work. | Until session expires or browser data is cleared |
beatid-player-id | localStorage | Storing your Firebase anonymous UID so the game can identify your player session across page reloads during active gameplay. | Until browser data is cleared |
beatid-host-id | localStorage | Storing your Firebase anonymous UID when hosting a game, so host controls persist across page reloads. | Until browser data is cleared |
beatid-storage-consent | localStorage | Recording whether you have accepted or declined functional storage. This item itself is strictly necessary for the consent mechanism to function. | Until browser data is cleared |
2.2 Functional Storage (Consent Required)
These items enhance your experience but are not essential. We will only set them if you consent via the storage consent banner.
| Item | Technology | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
beatid-player-nickname | localStorage | Remembering your chosen nickname so you do not have to re-enter it each time you join a new game. | Until browser data is cleared or consent is withdrawn |
3. Third-Party Scripts
The following third-party script is loaded on every page of BeatID Online:
| Script | Provider | Purpose | What It May Access |
|---|---|---|---|
| MusicKit JS (v3) | Apple Inc. | Enables music catalogue search and 30-second song preview playback from Apple Music. | Your browser makes network requests to Apple’s CDN (js-cdn.music.apple.com) and Apple Music API servers. Apple receives your IP address as part of these requests. Apple may set its own cookies or storage items according to its own privacy policy. |
We do not use any advertising, tracking, or analytics scripts. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any similar tracking technology.
4. How to Manage Your Preferences
When you first visit BeatID Online, you will see a storage consent banner. You can accept or decline functional storage at that point.
You can change your preference at any time by clearing your browser data for this site, which will reset the consent banner.
You can also manage localStorage and IndexedDB directly through your browser’s developer tools or settings.
